Computers can see! They can search images based on visual attributes such as color, shape and texture. This tool is ideal for novices wondering which colors will go well together, as well as color lovers who wish to indulge in instant gratification.

Select up to 10 colors from a palette of 120 for an instant mosaic. The Idée Multicolr Search Lab currently searches 10 million of the most “interesting” photos on Flickr, while its professional counterpart, Multicolour Search Lab, riffles through a mere 2.8 million stock images from Alamy. Could this be the end of shredding magazines for inspiration boards and collages?

      That’s pretty cool!

I still like shredding magazines for collages though. Something about the physical process and the limits of the number of magazines on hand and the images in them catalyzes an intuitive process for me. Having access to so many images seems to overwhelm me and I can’t focus.

But for seeing what colors go well together, this sure beats just lining them up next to each other in Photoshop!
